The Seminar
June 15-19, 2025
Participants
We welcome any community college instructors searching for new ideas that will enhance teaching and learning to join us. Over the course of 5 days, you’ll have an opportunity to interact with other like-minded, inspired professionals passionate about students and learning.
Over the past 30 years, more than 1,000 community college faculty representing virtually every discipline have come to the seminar from community colleges in Alaska, Arizona, California, Canada, China, Colorado, Florida, Guam, Hawaii, Idaho, Illinois, Minnesota, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, North Carolina, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, and Wyoming.
You’ll be living closely with the other Seminar participants, which, over the long history of the Great Teaching Seminar, we have found that some of the best dialogue occur during unscheduled times. In this sense, you can expect the Great Teaching Seminar to be a genuine pedagogical retreat!
Approach & Schedule
The conference begins on Sunday with check-in time at 5 pm and ends Thursday after lunch. Our schedule is carefully planned, but intentionally flexible, beginning with small group discussions of the brief “innovation” and “problem” papers brought by all participants. You should expect to attend sessions each day and most evenings, and you will also have plenty of time for informal discussions and relaxation.
Activities
Most of the scheduled seminar activities take place in the main building of the Menucha retreat center, and we can accommodate accessibility requests. Additionally, recreational activities can range from the strenuous to the restful. Options for free time include local hikes, a visit to a local spa retreat, walks on the grounds or to surrounding attractions, reading in the main hall, or much-needed napping.
Cost
The cost of the conference is $1400 until April 15th (with an increase to $1500 after that, until registration closes on May 20th). This includes registration, lodging, meals, and all other expenses except transportation. Enrollment is limited to the first 30 persons who register. The seminar usually fills before the May 20th deadline, so we urge you to make your reservation early!
